Final call for Litchfield Park ballots

Only a few more days remain in the all-mail ballot election that will name one of two Litchfield Park residents to the remaining council seat. Ballots were mailed May 1 and must be at the Litchfield City Hall or in the hands of the Maricopa County Elections Department by 7 p.m. May 20.

Goodyear code amendment creates no parking process

Drivers using Goodyear neighborhoods as overflow parking may be given the boot thanks to an amended traffic code that outlines a process for restricting parking. The Goodyear City Council approved an amendment to the city code April 28 that will let residents seek no parking signs.

Program, web site announced for Shafer Tribute
Trumpeter Jesse McGuire and pipe and drum bands from public safety agencies across the Valley gathered at Surprise Stadium Friday, May 9 for a tribute to former Surprise Mayor Joan Shafer. The late mayor passed April 14, 2008 at 80. She was Surprise’s first woman mayor and first directly elected mayor, serving from 1994 to 2007. Before becoming mayor, Shafer was a city council member.   More »

Peoria City Manager Terry Ellis oversees city programs offering assistance with hunger and housing, but that pales in comparison to his volunteer work for the homeless.
